How much does it cost to level a garden in the UK?
The cost to level a garden depends on how uneven the garden is, to begin with, and how much work and time is required to level it. Every garden is different so, so the job to level it will be also different.
Thus, it’s hard to find out the exact cost to level your garden unless you show it to someone who’ll be leveling it, or you can also show a picture of it but here is a quick answer.
For an average size garden (150 m2) that is flatter & isn’t much uneven, you can expect to pay anywhere from £1000-£2000 for leveling. If it’s a steep garden, it would involve a lot of digging work and would cost a lot more like up to £5,000 to level it out, or if you want it into two layers to two tiers, you can expect £10,000 for the digging and retaining wall.
If your garden has a few uneven spots here and there, you just need to remove higher spots and fill lower spots to level it. This doesn’t involve that much work and effort so, the cost level it would be much lower.
If a garden is full of ridges, you may have to start all over again, like calculating how much amount of soil to dig, digging up those hills, adding or removing the soil, and then planning for the turf or a patio whatever you want. It will take much more work, and hence time to level it properly compared to a place that isn’t that uneven. This will eventually cost more. There’s also the disposing cost involved to dispose of the waste soil.
As I said before, asking how much does it cost to level a garden is just like saying how long is a piece of string because there are many factors that influence the cost like any other landscaping project so, showing a picture of your garden to a landscaping professional can help him to determine an estimated cost to level your garden.
What he will do to give you an estimated cost is, he will analyze the unevenness of your garden, like look at high and low points in your garden and then roughly calculate the amount of time he will require to dig the high points and fill the low points. Depending on the time he will require, he can give you the cost.
Being a landscape blogger, I’m a part of many landscaping groups on Facebook. The other day I came across the above picture of a steep garden in one of the groups, where the owner wanted to level it out and split it into two tiers, and he asked about how much will it roughly cost.
In replies, he got answers up to £10,000, and that was true becasue in order to layer his garden into two tiers, it needs digging, building a retaining wall, leveling, and then what comes is a patio at the end.
This is another example of leveling a garden you can see in the image above. Here, there was a lot of digging involved, like they dug out 120 tons so, the labour cost to dig out and level the garden was way more for this job compared to any other normal. The complete project including a 60 m2 patio and stone retaining wall was done for £20,000.
