How Many Block Pavers per Pack? (and how many pavers do I need?)

There isn’t a specific number of how many block pavers are there in a pack unless we’re talking about any particular type of block paving from a particular supplier because it depends on the dimension of the pavers and the paving supplier because the number varies so widely.

On average, a pack of block pavers covers around 7m2. However, it can be less such as 5m2/pack or far more like 15m2/pack depending on the various things like the size of the pavers (length, width, and thickness) and the supplier.

For example, the above are two of the many types of block paving from Marshalls. I’ve taken these two types here because they are of different sizes so, their quantities are also different in terms of a pallet. Even though they both cover around the same amount of area per pack, one has far more or the less amount of pavers per pack than the other.

In the first image, if you see carefully, three different sizes of pavers are used to create a pattern. So, instead of one or two larger pavers, they’re using three small pavers for the same area to accomplish a look or a pattern which ultimately increases the number of pavers required for the job.

Even the smallest paver of the three which is making a very little difference in terms of coverage is calculated or considered as one whole paver. On the other hand in the second image, less number of pavers are covering around the same amount of an area as the first because the job of two small pavers is done by one big paver.

Along with length and width, the number of pavers in a pack also depends on the thickness of the pavers. Usually, there will be fewer pavers per pack if the pavers are thick like 80mm to manage the weight and size of the pack compared to less thick pavers like 50mm.

If you are a DIYer doing block paving yourself, see the DIYers Cheat Sheet for Block Paving here, there’s a lot more you need to know during the process to give paving a better chance for success and longevity.

How many block pavers per square metre?

There can be between 20 and 40 pavers required to cover a square metre depending on the size (length and width) of the pavers.

How Many Block Pavers Do I Need?

As we just saw, how the different sizes in pavers can make a whole lot of difference in terms of the number of pavers per pack, it’s the same for the number of pavers required for the job as well.

The number of pavers you need, of course, depends on the size of the area that you wish to block pave and also on the size (length and width) of the pavers as well.

So it’s impossible to calculate how many block pavers you’ll need for the job unless you choose or finalize the paver/s that you want for the job from a supplier even if you already know how big of an area to block paving.

If you go to the supplier’s website and choose the type of paving you want, there you’ll get all the details like the dimension of the paver and how many of them are in a pack.

To calculate the number of pavers required, calculate the area of a single paver (if you’re using single-size pavers across the job), or the sum of the area of all different paver sizes (if you have a multi-size paver pattern), and divide the total area that you wish to block pave by it.
